This week, the Seafarers’ project team gathered for a topping out ceremony led by builders, Icon. It was a moment of reflection on the journey to date and anticipation for the excitement that lies ahead.

During the ceremony, Brett Howlett, Project Director at Riverlee, described the façade as ‘perhaps the most complex facade this city has seen, it’s like a massive jigsaw puzzle put together.’

Inspired by its riverfront setting, the façade beautifully merges industrial heritage with the movement of the Yarra River. The unique island site allows its architecture to be experienced in full, and from 360 degrees—each viewing angle revealing the design in a new light.

The attention to detail and precision from the project team in conceptualising, designing, fabricating, and installing this façade is a remarkable feat. Seafarers is not just a building; it’s a legacy project for Melbourne.
